The teams are created by having six people on each team with two rows of players. The net splits the court into two. The height of the volleyball net will depend on the ages and gender of the players. The official net height for men is 7 feet, 11 5/8 inches. It is 7 feet, 4 1/8 inches for women.
The object of the volleyball game is to deliver the ball over the net and inside the opposing team’s court. Players in the front row must start the game from 3 meters away from the net. Game play begins from the server’s position over the net towards the other team. The server must get the ball over the net initially, and the other team cannot allow the ball to hit the ground. Player position is rotated throughout the game each time the team gains possession of the ball again; the players will rotate so there is a different person serving the ball.
Players cannot touch the ball anymore than three times in a row from one side, except on a block. These three hits consist of a bump, a pass, a set and a hit, also referred to as a spike. If a ball hits the net, it is still in play regardless if it goes over or stays on the same side; provided that hit is not the third hit on the same side. Players are not allowed to make contact with net otherwise it will be a loss of a rally. A ball touching the line is considered inside the court. If the volleyball hits the net’s antennas located on the top of both sides of the net, it is considered to be an out, and the rally of the ball is lost. A team wins by earning a predetermined amount of points ahead of the other team.
